Cal Poly Named Amazon Web Services Authorized Training Partner

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly has joined the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN) Training Partner Program, which enables authorized instructors at the university to deliver training developed by AWS.

Leveraging Cal Poly’s relationship with AWS through the Cal Poly DxHub was one of the earliest collaborations with the AWS Cloud Innovation Center (CIC)program. Through the development of the university’s California Cybersecurity Institute for state-focused applied research and training, the cloud training program at Cal Poly provides “upskilling” and “reskilling” opportunities for Cal Poly students, staff, and alumni, and working adults across the state.

“As cloud technologies continue to help organizations transform their businesses at a rapid pace, employees with the necessary cloud skills are in high demand,” said Maureen Lonergan, director of AWS Training and Certification, Amazon Web Services Inc. “The APN Training Partner Program is designed for organizations like Cal Poly that have a proven and reliable history in technical training.

“As part of the program, Cal Poly delivers AWS training to enable local IT professionals and businesses to make better use of the cloud,” she added.

The training is available through Cal Poly Extended Education (https://cloud.calpoly.edu/) and Cal State Online (https://www.calstateonline.net). Cal Poly also provides access to the training for state and federal agencies by listing the content through California’s Department of General Services’ California Multiple Award System (CMAS).

“This is an excellent opportunity for instructors to provide training to our staff, regional workforce and alumni across the state,” said Brian Tietje, Cal Poly’s vice provost for International, Graduate and Extended Education. “These courses will provide hands-on training and build cloud skills that employers are looking for.”

Course titles from the initial selection of training options include Architecting on AWS, Developing on AWS, Systems Operations on AWS, Security Engineering on AWS and Big Data on AWS.

“As a university, we committed to a full transition of infrastructure, services and data into the cloud three years ago,” said Bill Britton, Cal Poly’s vice president of information technology and chief information officer. “The work we have accomplished in this transition played a critical role in educational continuity and student success when all of the university’s courses and services shifted to online modality in spring quarter. We are continuing to work to provide our community with the best technological resources possible as our students, faculty, staff and community partners are navigating an everchanging technological and global landscape.”
