Cal Poly Center for Service in Action Launches Make-a-Difference Month
SAN LUIS OBISPO –– Cal Poly’s Center for Service in Action is designating the month of November as Make a Difference Month.
In response to increased demand, the center is extending Make a Difference Day — its traditional day of service — into a month-long service event for local organizations and community members. Make a Difference Day is a nationally designated service day in which local residents are matched with community service opportunities at nonprofit organizations throughout the Central Coast.
In 2017, the program partnered with 18 organizations to log more than 2,800 community service hours by 700 volunteers. This year, the program hopes to assist even more organizations and volunteers — including those in the northern and southern regions of San Luis Obispo County — through increased flexibility in scheduling.
“Make a Difference Month is really about helping organizations when they need it most during November, instead of trying to match volunteers with community service opportunities on just one designated day,” said Bradley Kyker, senior coordinator for the Center for Service in Action. “We’re confident this new approach will allow us to match even more organizations in need with volunteers who want to do something good for their community.”
The center is seeking to partner with San Luis Obispo County organizations and members of the community interested in community service opportunities during Make a Difference Month. For more information or to sign up for a community service opportunity, visit serviceinaction.calpoly.edu/MADM.
