SAN LUIS OBISPO — A handful of Cal Poly Student Affairs staff members were chosen by the American College Personnel Association’s (ACPA) Career Services Commission to receive its annual Innovation Award.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly has been named a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists, recognizing the university’s work toward projects, policies and programs that exhibit a strong commitment to cycling.
Cal Poly was recognized for the first time as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly University, joining a cutting-edge group of more than 180 colleges and universities across the U.S. that are providing more bicycle-friendly campuses for the benefit of students, staff, faculty and community members.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Children with cancer and other special needs in the community will receive toys and gift cards that were donated by Cal Poly employees.
University faculty and staff and Associated Students Inc. and Cal Poly Corporation employees donated more than 400 toys and $300 in gift cards during a Dec. 7 holiday reception hosted on campus by Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong and his wife, Sharon.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Startups could receive up to $200,000 in angel-backed investments by applying for the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) 2018 Angel Conference.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The head of Cal Poly’s Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences has been named to the 2017 list of Highly Cited Researchers.
Professor Gregory Brown was included on the annual list produced by Clarivate Analytics, which recognizes the most frequently cited researchers spanning the globe in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, representing leading researchers whose papers have supported, influenced, inspired, and challenged others.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Two Cal Poly construction management students recently took second place in the fifth annual Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 8 International Student Competition. Kelly Williams and Carlye Cunningham were challenged to assume the role of contractor in the refurbishment of a 114-year-old building in Liverpool, England.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — A group of 18 Cal Poly Honors Program students and a faculty member helped harvest more than 1,000 pounds of bell peppers during a recent gleaning project at Talley Farms in Arroyo Grande.
GleanSLO, a program of the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County that brings together volunteers to salvage produce that would otherwise go to waste, received the fall bounty.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Nearly 1,000 students are eligible to graduate in three ceremonies at Cal Poly’s 34th annual fall commencement Saturday, Dec. 9. Ceremonies are set for 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Cal Poly Recreation Center.
The theme for this year’s commencement is “Mustangs Forever.” The ceremonies will include a retrospective slideshow of the graduating students during the processional, the “proud pinning” ceremony and a celebratory surprise.
