Take a Look: Web Cams Show Progress on Cal Poly Construction Projects

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly is in the midst of a building boom. Two Engineering buildings are now receiving finishing touches, the Spanos Stadium is nearly completed -- and a 2,700-bed student housing village is now in the first phases of construction at the base of Poly Canyon.

Several of the construction projects have web cams -- cameras linked to the Internet, showing live streaming photos. Click on the camera icons below to take a live look at campus and the projects. When you click on the camera icon, a new window will open on your computer screen. (High speed Internet service is best for web cam viewing -- dial-up modems will take much longer to send the camera feed to your computer screen.)

To control the web cameras, scroll down in the new window after it pops up, and look for the "Start Control" button in the bottom right hand corner. Click the button, and a camera control bar and camera presets drop-down menu box will appear below the photo/video feed. Follow the directions and use the control presets and control bars to turn the web camera and look at different areas.

Engineering IV: Construction is proceeding on schedule with an anticipated delivery date of February 2007. (Turn web cam to view both Engineering IV and Bonderson projects.)

Other building project updates:

Spanos Stadium: The project is in its final stages of completion. Final work includes the suite interiors, north end elevator, installation of the last bleachers and opening of California Boulevard project is expected to be completed by summer.

Student Housing Administration: Construction is well along on the new facility. Exterior siding, insulation, and drywall are being installed. Second floor interior framing is complete.

Bella Montana: This Cal Poly Housing Corporation project is progressing on schedule. Several homeowners moved into their condominiums before Christmas with more escrows scheduled to
close in January. The next sales opportunity, focused on recently hired faculty and staff, is scheduled for April 2007. Visit the Cal Poly Housing Corporation's website for more information about this project.

Marine Science Research and Education Center - Seawater Pumping System. The project, started in spring 2006, includes installing a seawater pumping and filtration system at the end
of the Cal Poly pier and enclosing it in a 1,600 square-foot building. The flowing seawater lab will be used to provide life support for local flora and fauna for both undergraduate education and research efforts. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2007.

Sustainability:
Cal Poly has also been taking a leadership role in sustainable building practices -- and studies. The campus Sustainability Advisory Committee, along with staff in Facilities Services and Facilities Planning and Capital Projects, recently published its first biennial progress report.
