Cal Poly Organic Farm Opening 7th Annual Produce Program
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- It’s time once again for the Cal Poly Organic Farm’s Fall & Winter Community Supported Agriculture Program Season to begin. The 26-week season runs September 18 through March 12th, offering a mouthwatering weekly selection of farm fresh organic vegetables, fruits and eggs to subscribers.
True veggie fans can sign up for a weekly full share harvest box that feeds four to five people for $650, or a weekly half-share harvest box that feeds two to three people for $468.
Subscribers can pick up their harvest boxes weekly at the farm, located on Mt. Bishop Road. The farm also offers drop-off locations in Morro Bay, North County and South County. Pick-up days are Mondays and Thursdays, between 3 and 6 p.m.
Fruits and vegetables in the box vary weekly, depending on what's ready for harvest. Fall & Winter season crops include lettuce, leafy greens, onions, arugula, leeks, carrots, tomatoes, eggplant, corn, bell peppers, melons and more. Everything is grown on the 10-acre Cal Poly Organic Farm.
"All the produce is harvested the same day you receive it, so freshness and nutrition are at their peak," said CSA program coordinator Elaine Genasci.
Members receive a weekly newsletter with recipes and farm-related information as well as an events calendar of farm activities and workshops. "Community Supported Agriculture is a partnership, really," Genasci said. "In exchange for a commitment to buy a share in our farm's harvest, students and staff commit to grow high quality herbs, vegetables and fruit for you."
