Northrop Grumman Donates $8,000
in Support of Science and Math Education

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Northrop Grumman Corp. has donated $8,000 to Supplemental Workshops in Math and Science, programs that promote diversity and academic success in math and science at Cal Poly.

Susan Sparling, director of Student Academic Services at Cal Poly, accepted the donation from Cecilia Harrison, a software engineer and department manager at Northrop Grumman. SAS coordinates Supplemental Workshops in Math and Science programming.

Sparling submitted a grant proposal to Northrop Grumman following a discussion with Harrison, a Cal Poly mathematics graduate and former Educational Opportunity Program student, about corporate opportunities to support diversity and math and science education at her alma mater. EOP is among the programs coordinated by SAS at Cal Poly.

The funds will enable more students to participate in accelerated workshops offered in conjunction with first- and second-year math and science courses at Cal Poly.

For more information, contact Susan Sparling at sspar@calpoly.edu or 805-756-2301.
