Student Competes in National Finals of Cardboard Chair Design Competition
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly College of Architecture and Environmental Design student Joseph Lyman will compete in the American Institute of Architecture Students Chair Affair 2006, June 8-10 in Los Angeles .
Cal Poly is one of six schools vying for the top prize of $2,500 and a free trip to the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters Convention in Chicago , Oct. 11-14. The top six chair designs will be displayed and judged at the 2006 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in Los Angeles . The event is sponsored by the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF). The program is intended to challenge individual students or student teams, to explore a variety of issues related to the use of corrugated cardboard (a non-traditional building material) in design and construction.
Other schools competing at this year's event include The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Cuesta College , University of Louisiana at Lafayette and University of Oregon .
