Cal Poly to Present ‘All That Brass’ Concert May 23

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Cal Poly Brass Ensembles will present “All That Brass” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church.

The centerpiece for the concert is a well-known work by Czech-born American composer Karel Husa, who died in December 2016.

“His ‘Divertimento for Brass and Percussion’ evokes the essence of Bohemian song and dance through a modern harmonic language,” Brass Ensemble Director Christopher J. Woodruff said.

The group will also perform compositions and arrangements by composers Chris Hazell and J.S. Bach, among others.

The free, public concert will be in the sanctuary of the church at 1515 Fredericks St. in San Luis Obispo.

The event is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406.
