University Preparing Environmental Impact Report for Master Plan
Public invited to comment on scope of Master Plan environmental analysis
SAN LUIS OBISPO — As Cal Poly prepares an environmental impact report for its Master Plan 2035, the public is invited to view and comment on the Initial Study for the master plan and scope of the EIR through Nov. 1.
Copies of the Initial Study are available for review in person or online. Comments on it can be made in writing or during a public meeting to be held later this month.
The university’s master plan is being updated to guide campus development — while accommodating student enrollment, enhancing the quality of campus life and continuing a high standard of educational instruction — over the next 20 years. The plan will also identify needed improvements and facilities, providing the university with a framework to implement future goals and programs.
An Initial Study has been prepared for the Master Plan under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), which indicates that future campus projects might have significant environmental impacts. Those impacts will be addressed by the EIR prepared by the university.
The public is invited to review and comment on the Initial Study. The 30-page document is available online at http://masterplan.calpoly.edu; click on the Related Documents tab. Printed copies of the study are also available for review at Kennedy Library, on the Cal Poly campus, and at the San Luis Obispo City-County Library, 995 Palm St.
A public meeting to receive comments on the Initial Study and scope of the EIR will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the University Union (No. 65), Room 220. Parking is available in the Grand Avenue parking structure. Written comments will also be accepted until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
