Cal Poly to Host Elevator Pitch Competition Finals, Panel Discussion Nov. 9

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Tips on how to deliver the perfect business pitch will be the focus of the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) forum from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Performing Arts Center Pavilion.

The final round of the 2016 Elevator Pitch Competition will take place during the P.E.N. (Pitches, Exhibits, Networking) portion of the evening, from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. For the first time, students from Cuesta Community College will join Cal Poly in the Elevator Pitch Competition. Cuesta and Cal Poly will each send six students to the finals for a total of 12 finalists.

“This year we are happy to have Cuesta students competing alongside Cal Poly students in the Elevator Pitch Competition,” said Gayla Jurevich, deputy sector navigator for the Business and Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College. “We hope this event marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between Cal Poly and Cu.”

The evening’s panel discussion will explore the dynamics of a perfect pitch to potential investors. Panelists include AJ Forsythe, founder of iCracked; Dustin Yoder, CEO of Sureify; Norah Eddy, co-founder of Salty Girl Seafood; and Andrew Flachner, co-founder of RealScout.

“The forum series gives community members the opportunity to meet up-and-coming entrepreneurs who are part of the Central Coast community,” said Lori Jordan, director of student innovation programs for the CIE. “These events also give local entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from the successes and failures of seasoned innovators.”

Community members interested in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation at Cal Poly can become Pioneer Pass Holders with a pledge of $100. The annual pass gives member’s expedited registration and access to special industry events.

The Nov. 9 forum is free and open to the public; advance registration is required. For more information and to register, go to http://epc2016.eventbrite.com.
