Cal Poly to Host Talk by Landscape Architect Andrea Cochran March 6

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly will host a lecture on “Space and Passage” by landscape architect Andrea Cochran at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, in the Business Building Rotunda (Building 3, Room 213). The presentation is part of the Hearst Lecture Series in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design.

Cochran will present her innovative approach to “placemaking,” in which she uses a controlled palette of materials to heighten the experience of texture, light, movement and space. Across a diverse range of project types and scales, Cochran’s work is distinguished by its careful response to site, climate and the existing environment.

She has been practicing landscape architecture in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 30 years. Seamlessly integrating landscape, art and architecture, her work is rooted in the rich legacy of modernism in Northern California.

Cochran graduated from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. In 2007, she was named a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Her work has earned numerous awards, most recently an ASLA Honor Award in General Design for the Nueva School in the Bay Area.
