Kinko’s Founder Paul Orfalea to Speak at Cal Poly Jan. 28
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Entrepreneur and philanthropist Paul Orfalea will speak from 2:10 to 3 p.m. Monday,Jan. 28, as part of the Orfalea College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series.
“A Conversation with Paul Orfalea” will be in Spanos Theatre at Cal Poly. He will be speak with Jon York, professor of entrepreneurship and co-founder of the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The event is free and open to the public.
Orfalea founded Kinko’s in 1970 with a simple idea: provide affordable access to products and services otherwise unavailable to students and small businesses. From its modest beginnings in Santa Barbara, Kinko’s – now Fed Ex Office – became the world’s leading business services chain, with more than 1,700 branches worldwide. Orfalea used an unorthodox approach to business to create a compassionate, unconventional, partner-driven culture that empowered co-workers and allowed Kinko’s to thrive, making it one of the best places to work in America, according to several national publications.
In 2001, Orfalea and the Orfalea Family Foundation provided an endowment to further the strategic plan of Cal Poly’s College of Business to become one of the nation’s premier undergraduate and graduate programs. The foundation also generously endowed Cal Poly’s Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center, which provides quality early childcare and education to local children.
The Orfalea College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series seeks to enhance the educational experience of business students and the Cal Poly community while showcasing programs, faculty and students to the California business community.
