Cal Poly Student Awarded $27,000 Rotary Scholarship

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly landscape architecture student Sarah Cawrse was one of two students selected by the Rotary District 5240 Scholarship Committee to receive a $27,000 Ambassadorial Scholarship grant. The scholarship is open to students of all majors within Rotary District 5240, which encompasses Ventura, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Kern counties, as well as a small portion of Los Angeles County.

Cawrse, a member of Cal Poly’s volleyball team, was selected from a pool of 72 applicants. The scholarship will allow her to pursue graduate studies in Europe.

The Ambassadorial Scholarships program is intended to expand international understanding and foster friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors academic year scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. Selection is based on an interview and application competition.

While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. When they return, they share with Rotarians and others their experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.
