FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Multi-Instrumentalist John McCutcheon to Play the Spanos
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA – Johnny Cash called JOHN McCUTCHEON “the most impressive instrumentalist I’ve ever heard.” The Washington Post declared: “(McCutcheon) has an uncanny ability to breathe new life into the familiar. His storytelling has the richness of fine literature.”
On Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 8 p.m. in the Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre, Cal Poly Arts and the San Luis Obispo Folk Music Society present folk singer/songwriter JOHN McCUTCHEON in concert.
McCutcheon has emerged as one of America’s most respected folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments – most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His song writing has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His 30 recordings have garnered numerous honors, including seven Grammy nominations.
McCutcheon has also produced over 20 albums for other artists, and his books and instructional manuals have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality.
Whether in print, on record, or live on stage, few people communicate with the versatility, charm, wit, or pure talent of John McCutcheon.
McCutcheon's latest September, 2011 release, This Land: Woody Guthrie’s America, has already been hailed as one of the most comprehensive and stunning tributes to the American icon, filled with beautiful versions of Guthrie songs – classic and unknown.
Student and adult tickets for the performance are $20 and $25 and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Ticket Office, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
