DesignIntelligence Names Cal Poly Best
Public Undergraduate Architecture School
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly was recently ranked the top public undergraduate architecture school in the nation, alongside Virginia Tech, in an annual survey by DesignIntelligence.
The university ranked fourth overall behind Cornell, Syracuse and Rice universities.
The DesignIntelligence “Survey of Architecture Deans and Department Heads” tallies the opinions of academic leaders, who weigh in on the status and progress of their own and peer institutions.
The survey also rates the best institutions at preparing students for specific skills. For the fourth year in a row, Cal Poly’s architecture program earned the nation’s top honor in the Construction Methods and Materials category. The Landscape Architecture Department ranked 8th in the list of the nation’s Top 20 undergraduate programs.
The 12th annual survey queried leading practitioners from a cross-section of industries and regions about the programs they considered to be best overall, and their satisfaction with new graduates. The DesignIntelligence rankings have become a tool for students choosing academic programs that will launch their design careers. The rankings are the only attempt to rank accredited Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture programs in the United States.
“As the practice of architecture is making strides in how projects are delivered in a cross-disciplinary manner, the Architecture Department is proud to know that not only is the education of our students remaining abreast of those changes, but more importantly that our alumni are ready to participate as leaders in an ever-changing world,” said Henri T. de Hahn, head of Cal Poly’s Architecture Department. “We are pleased that once again the DesignIntelligence rankings confirm our strong standing as a leader in architectural education.”
