Student AmeriCorps Members Help Habitat for Humanity
SAN LUIS OBISPO – AmeriCorps members with The Central Coast Volunteer Corps at Cal Poly helped Habitat for Humanity of San Luis Obispo on Sept. 26.
More than a dozen AmeriCorps members worked with Habitat for Humanity volunteers to build a shed, which will be auctioned at the grand opening of Lowe’s Home Improvement in Paso Robles on Oct. 29. The auction proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity.
Lunch for the volunteers was provided by Steve and Shelley Sproger.
AmeriCorps is a National Service program that enrolls members for a year of service. In return, members receive a living allowance and become eligible upon successful completion of their term of service for a scholarship that can be used to pay for college or repay student loans.
Locally, The Central Coast Volunteer Corps has 35 AmeriCorps members serving in 25 nonprofit agencies in San Luis Obispo County, helping to address community needs.
Recruitment is open for the 2010 service year. For more information or to apply, call 756-5338 or visit http://www.studentlife.calpoly.edu/americorps/index.asp.
