Students Display Ideas on
San Luis Obispo City and County Climate Plans
TO: News Editors, Photo Editors, Assignment Editors and Reporters
WHAT: Exhibition on Public Transportation, Bicycles, Pedestrians, Land Use and Downtown Transportation for San Luis Obispo City and County
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 19, 3:45–5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Ludwick Center, 864 Santa Rosa St., San Luis Obispo
BACKGROUND: Cal Poly students will present their ideas for future transportation in the city and county of San Luis Obispo. Their recommendations are based on a mandate from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to reduce greenhouse gases in 2050 by 80 percent below 1990 levels.
As transportation contributes 50 percent of these greenhouse gases and vehicle technology alone cannot solve the problem, dramatic changes in transportation and travel behavior are inevitable, according to Cal Poly Engineering instructor Eugene Jud.
Jud’s Public Transportation class heard speakers from different agencies and went on excursions to learn about the problem and possible solutions. “Good ideas can come from anywhere,” Jud said. “These students are our future, and they can have a big impact.”
The event is free and open to the public.
