Cal Poly Continuing Education Receives
$50,000 in Scholarship Funding for Re-entry Students

The Bernard Osher Foundation has awarded $50,000 to Cal Poly Continuing Education and University Outreach to provide scholarships for reentry students for the 2009-2010 academic year. Scholarships will be available to cover instructional and related university fees.

This is the second round of scholarship assistance the Bernard Osher Foundation has provided to adult students at Cal Poly. The Osher Foundation previously provided funding to assist students in the Continuing Education’s Adult Degree Program. This gift expands the program to adult reentry students enrolled in any undergraduate degree program at Cal Poly.

“We are all very pleased that the Bernard Osher Foundation recognizes the financial challenges many adult students encounter when they return to college, especially in these tough economic times” said Cal Poly Continuing Education Dean Dennis Parks. “This funding will help many adult reentry students complete their undergraduate degrees in a more timely fashion.”

To be eligible for an Osher Reentry Scholarship, individuals must be either enrolled at Cal Poly or be admitted to a degree program starting this coming fall quarter 2009.

Students receiving a scholarship must have experienced a gap in their path to an undergraduate degree and demonstrate financial need. They must also show a commitment to the pursuit of their undergraduate degrees and the likelihood of making a contribution to the larger community upon graduation. Students receiving these scholarships will be known as Osher Reentry Scholars.
