Cal Poly Opens 'Learn by Doing' Lab for Future Science Teachers

Students and professors in labSAN LUIS OBISPO -- President Warren Baker and College of Science and Mathematics Dean Phil Bailey officially opened the new Learn By Doing Lab on campus recently.

The 1,500 square-foot laboratory provides a hands-on environment for Cal Poly science majors interested in teaching. Students will host over 1,600 fourth through eighth grade students this school year, teaching them inquiry-based science lessons.

The Learn By Doing Lab is one of Cal Poly’s Math and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI)-funded programs. MSTI is a CSU program to recruit more math and science majors into teaching careers.
