Three Chosen to Receive Outstanding Staff Award

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly has named three employees to receive the 2008-2009 Outstanding Staff Award.

This year's recipients are Vera Gee, administrative analyst/specialist in Admissions, Recruitment and Financial Aid; George Leone, equipment technician II in the Mechanical Engineering department; and Colleen Rodriguez, administrative support assistant in Fiscal Services-Payroll Services.

Gee came to Cal Poly in 1986. She has worked in Admissions her entire career, dedicating 22 years to their vision of recruiting, admitting, enrolling and graduating a high-quality diverse student population. “Vera is one of the most dedicated and loyal employees that I have had the privilege in working for and with. Her dedication to the Admissions office goes far and beyond what is asked of her,” said a co-worker.

Leone has worked as staff equipment support to the Aero Hanger since 2000, but had been involved with the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) team for 20 years before he worked at Cal Poly. “George’s dedication to the educational goals of the department is well known. He has always made himself available to students, helping with projects and sharing technical advice. He has put a great deal of effort in the review and update of shop safety policies and procedures,” said his co-worker.

Rodriguez has worked at Cal Poly for 29 years, greeting all new employees as they sign-up for work in the Payroll office. “Colleen is a truly wonderful individual and is a ray of sunshine on the first floor of the Administration Building. Colleen always goes the second mile, and her knowledge is dispensed accurately, patiently and with a kind word and smile,” said her co-worker.

The award recipients will be recognized and presented with their awards by the President at Fall Conference on Monday, Sept. 14 in the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center.
