Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business to Offer
New Distance Learning Master’s Degree
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Beginning in fall 2009, Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business will offer a new distance learning graduate degree program designed specifically for working professionals: a Master of Science in Business and Technology.
This unique graduate program incorporates both the convenience of distance learning and laboratory access to Cal Poly’s Industrial Technology Department. Spread over six academic quarters, the part-time degree program includes two on-campus weekends per quarter to facilitate hands-on learning, networking with peers and interaction with faculty. The balance of coursework will be delivered online. Each course will integrate the learning objectives, reading assignments, developmental activities and performance evaluations expected in a quality Master's degree program.
Orfalea College of Business Associate Dean of Graduate Programs Chris Carr said that the new graduate degree builds upon the rich history and distinctive nature of the Industrial Technology program and is specifically designed for rapidly-rising young technical managers.
“This new program offers a path to a Cal Poly graduate degree without forcing fully-employed professionals to make the difficult ‘either-or’ choice of career or advanced degree,” Carr said.
Cal Poly continues to offer a one-year, full-time, on-campus Master of Science in Business and Technology degree. The degree is focused on applied research and was formerly called the Master of Science in Industrial and Technical Studies.
For more information, visit the Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business Web site at www.cob.calpoly.edu/ms-bt or call the Orfalea College of Business Graduate Programs Office at 805-756-2637. The application deadline for the first class in the new graduate degree program is July 1.
