Cal Poly Students to Host iRESPECT Campaign April 13-16
SAN LUIS OBISPO – A group of Cal Poly Students will host iRESPECT, a campaign that asks the campus community to sign a pledge for respect, acceptance and tolerance to improve the campus climate with regard to diversity and respect.
Under the guidance of Dave Wehner, dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, students planned and created the event, which is set to run April 13-16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Two pledge banners will be available for signing at each of the following locations: University Union Plaza, Dexter Lawn, Campus Market, and the H-4 parking lot.
Together, the eight banners comprise the campaign pledge, "I pledge to create a welcoming, inclusive and accepting environment for all individuals at Cal Poly and to speak out in the face of intolerance, hate or discrimination of any form “I pledge to recognize my own prejudices; to be an agent for tolerance, respect, and mutual understanding; and to challenge myself to actively increase my awareness of diversity."
At the end of the campaign, the eight signature banners will be joined to a 16-foot-by-4-foot primary banner to create a 16-foot-by-12-foot banner that will hang in UU Plaza until Monday, April 20.
Students that sign the banner will receive a green and yellow silicone wristband with “CP Respect Campaign” on one side and “iRESPECT” on the other.
Student volunteers will receive red “iRESPECT” T-shirts with “GIVE IT, GET IT” on the back.
