Annual Business Plan Competition Open to the Public
-- Information Night Set for Oct. 28
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly's Orfalea College of Business and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host an Information Night for the sixth annual Ray Scherr Business Plan Competition on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Sandwich Factory on campus.
The winning entry will advance to a competition sponsored by Draper Fisher Jurvetson with a grand prize of $250,000. More than money, the competition puts participant’s business plans in front of people who can bring the concept to reality. DFJ is the largest venture capital firm in the world, launching companies such as Hotmail and Skype.
Prizes for the Ray Scherr Business Plan Competition include $4,000 for the winner, $3,000 for the first runner-up, and $3,000 for one community winner.
Information Night attendees can learn about the competition, Cal Poly’s educational workshop series, and form teams.
Free pizza and drinks will be provided by SIFE.
The annual competition is supported by a gift for entrepreneurship programs from Ray Scherr, founder of the Guitar Center, a retail store with more than 100 outlets throughout the country.
