'Take It SLO' A Cappella Group Spring Concert May 10

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's award-winning Take It SLO ensemble will present an A Cappella concert of current pop songs at its third annual Spring Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10th at Grace Church.

The 16-member vocal ensemble will perform a wide variety of songs, all arranged by the students themselves, including the popular hits "Apologize" by OneRepublic, "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles, and the premiere of a “mash-up” medley of pop songs by artists such as Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Nelly Furtado.

Take It SLO has received statewide recognition over the past few years. The ensemble has participated in the California A Cappella Festival at UCLA and competed in last year's International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in Santa Barbara.

The group members are students from a variety of majors on campus; its manager is business major Nicolle MacDonald. Tickets to the concert are $5 for students and $7 for adults, and can be bought at the door the evening of the concert. Proceeds will go toward group funds for the recording of a Take it SLO compact disc.

Grace Church is located at 1350 Osos Street in San Luis Obispo. The Take It SLO concert is sponsored by the Cal Poly Music Department and College of Liberal Arts.
