Cal Poly’s Student Community Services to Host “Senior” Prom April 20
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Student Community Services will host its second annual Senior Prom to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease. The event is open to the public and takes place Sunday, April 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Manse on Marsh.
Organized by Cal Poly Agricultural Business senior Brandon Styles, the prom features live jazz music – played by Cal Poly students – dining, dancing, and live and silent auctions. All net proceeds benefit the San Luis Obispo office of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Styles hopes to see senior citizens and students attend the event. “This is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to attend ‘prom.’ Last year college students attended and danced with some of the more lively seniors, which was wonderful to watch,” said Styles.
After working with senior citizens who suffer with Alzheimer’s, Styles was motivated to host an event that was fun for the community and raised awareness about the disease. The 2007 inaugural event was attended by more than 150 people and raised $1,400.
Tax deductible sponsorship opportunities are available, and donations are welcome. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased in advance at Cal Poly’s Student Community Services office, University Union, Room 217.
