Cal Poly’s Another Type of Groove Series
Presents Buddy Wakefield on April 2

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s MultiCultural Center will welcome internationally-renown slam poet Buddy Wakefield on Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m., in the PAC Pavilion.

Winner of the Individual World Slam competition twice in his career, Wakefield has performed in an extensive range of notable venues, including The Fillmore, San Quentin State Penitentiary, CBGB, and Scotland’s Òran Mór. He has also been featured on NPR, the BBC, and HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.

In addition to touring full time, Wakefield serves on the Board of Directors for Youth Speaks Seattle and is a member of Soloman Sparrow’s Electric Whale Revival, a performance group that features some of the country’s most prominent spoken word artists.

Sponsored by Cal Poly’s MultiCultural Center, Another Type of Groove is a monthly series that welcomes some of the nation’s top slam poets to the university. In addition to the poet’s performance, an open mike poetry forum is also offered, which acts as a venue for personal expression among students, faculty, staff, and the community.

For more information, contact the MultiCultural Center at 805-756-1405, or mcc@calpoly.edu.
