Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi Attends 7th Annual UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference at Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO – One day after announcing that he will run for Governor of California, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi came to Cal Poly to speak about the need for California to transition from an energy inefficient state to a state that embraces sustainable practices.
Following a speech he gave at the Sustainability Conference, Garamendi hosted a news conference in front of Cal Poly’s award-winning solar decathlon house.
Flanked by two alternative fuel vehicles, the Lieutenant Governor spoke to students, faculty, staff and the local media about the importance of changing the way Californians look at sustainable practices and green building.
After reminding the crowd of about 50 people that California leads the nation in greenhouse gas emissions, the Lieutenant Governor challenged state colleges and universities, as well as cities and municipalities to work together to create solutions for reducing greenhouse gases, and implementing sustainable building practices.
He commended Cal Poly for hosting an extraordinary event and for being ahead of the curve in implementing sustainable practices on campus.
Chad Worth, a Cal Poly industrial engineering student and Erik Justesen of RRM Design Group also spoke at the news conference.
