Cal Poly’s Pride Center Hosts Pride Week May 4-10
SAN LUIS OBISPO—Cal Poly’s Pride Center will host 14 special events for students and the public during Pride Week, from May 4-10.
By educating people about the issues facing the local LGBT community, the Pride Center hopes to create a campus environment where all students feel welcome and empower them to support social justice, said the Pride Center's Erin Echols.
Activities for Cal Poly students include:
Sunday, May 4
- Capture the Flag, presented by Spectrum, 1-3 p.m., on Dexter Lawn.
Monday, May 5
- Learn to Cook, presented by University Housing, 7 p.m., in Cerro Vista Community Center.
- Cookie Decorating, presented by University Housing, on Monday, May 5, at
8 p.m., in Sequoia Hall TV Lounge.
Tuesday, May 6
- Week of Welcome (WOW) Spring Training presentation, 8 p.m., in Chumash Auditorium.
- The Laramie Project, a film presented by University Housing, 8 p.m., in Muir Hall.
Thursday, May 8
- Rock Band Competition, presented by the Pride Center, 8 p.m. – midnight, in Bishops Lounge.
Saturday, May 10
- Pride Week Prom, presented by the Pride Center, 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. in the PAC Pavilion. Admission is $10.
Activities for the public will run Sunday, May 4 to Saturday May 10 and include:
- Art Display, presented by the Pride Center, from Sunday on Dexter Lawn.
Tuesday, May 6
- Pride Fair, presented by the Pride Center, 11 a.m. – noon in University Union Plaza.
- Soup & Substance, presented by the Pride Center, noon – 1 p.m. in Room 204 of the University Union.
Wednesday, May 7
- Another Type of Groove with featured poet “katastophe,” sponsored by the MultiCultural Center, 7 -9:30 p.m., in the PAC Pavilion.
Thursday, May 8
- Provocative Perspectives speaker Glenda Russell, presented by the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, 7:30 a.m. in the Vista Grande Café, and 11 a.m. in the University Union, Room 204.
Friday, May 9
- Free BBQ Lunch, presented by Delta Lambda Phi and Fusion, 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. in the University Union Plaza.
Saturday, May 10
- Youth Empowerment Conference, presented by GALA, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., in the University Union, Room 220.
