Cal Poly Receives Major Gift to Renovate Architecture Lab

SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly's College of Architecture and Environmental Design has received a $125,000 pledge from KTGY GROUP, INC., one of the state's most successful architecture firms.

The gift will be used to enhance an existing laboratory in the college to create a professional quality interactive environment for students.

"We are delighted to have KTGY's innovative support for our college," said R. Thomas Jones, dean of the CAED. "For more than a decade, KTGY has provided support to our departments, and hundreds of students over the years have benefited from this partnership."

For many years, KTGY has provided mentorship, computers and other learning materials to Cal Poly, as well as created a satellite learn-by-doing working-studio where students attend class in the firm's Irvine office, giving students a chance to engage in a real world design problems.

"KTGY's most recent gift will help the Architecture Department and college emphasize interdisciplinary project work," said Architecture Department Head Henri de Hahn. "The ability to know all of the aspects that go into a building gives our graduates an edge in the real world."

"KTGY and Cal Poly have developed a long-term partnership benefiting the future of education in the built environment," said John Tully, principal and one of the founders of KTGY. "The firm's contributions to Cal Poly also enable more than 100 Cal Poly alumni, employed by KTGY, to stay connected with their alma mater and give back to the educational community."
