Cal Poly Announces 2007 President’s Diversity Awards
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Counseling Services and Student Life and Leadership are the two recipients of the 2007 President's Diversity Award.
Counseling Services was praised for its systematic consideration of diversity issues in counseling center procedures, staff meetings, staff development activities, staff recruitment, and outreach to the wider campus community.
Baker specifically commended Counseling Services for its comprehensive “Community Psychology Initiative,” which utilizes myriad strategies to achieve increased sensitivity to the needs of students of color, to provide a welcoming campus environment to all students, and to remove any barriers to seeking services.

In addition, Student Life and Leadership was credited for its attention to diversity issues in virtually all of its programs, including the Student Community Services and AmeriCorps orientation programs and campus events, the Week of Welcome program, Open House, Poly Cultural Weekend, and Greek Affairs events and activities.
