Cal Poly Business Students to Host Fundraiser Jan. 31 - All-Day Raffle Drawings Will Help Launch a Ship of Hope to Neediest Areas of Africa
SAN LUIS OBISPO--A “Container of Hope” fundraiser on Mott Lawn on Jan. 31 will help launch a ship of hope to some of the neediest areas of Africa.
The “container” is a shipment of supplies, equipment and tools for several Zambian villages in dire need of clean water, housing and other basic needs. Drill rigs, sand filters and a brick-making press are among its cargo.
The event is part of an industry-education partnership between Orfalea College of Business Students in Free Enterprise and Seeds of Hope International Partnerships.
The fundraiser, which features raffle drawings throughout the day, runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
All proceeds will be donated to Seeds of Hope, a nonprofit organization that has been active in relief and development efforts in Africa. Its combined efforts have produced clean water for more than 110,000 people, as well as provided community-based hygiene and sanitation training and improved housing standards
The event will include a variety of exhibits to show how the lack of clean water and sanitation is one of the largest public health issues of our time. The displays also highlight the many opportunities for students, staff and faculty to improve lives in southern Africa.
