Cal Poly Student Club Presents ‘Arab Awareness Week’
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Students for Justice and Peace in the Middle East is sponsoring Cal Poly’s first Arab Awareness Week Feb. 19 – 22.
The following events are free and open to the public:
- Monday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m., Business Building, Room 213 – Showing of “Tragedy in the Holy Land,” a documentary about the historical perspective of the conflict in Palestine, one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted conflicts of the last century
- Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m., Chumash Auditorium – Culture Night! Experience the food, music, dance, fashion, and art of the Middle East
- Wednesday, Feb. 21, 7 p.m., Business Building, Room 213 – Professor As’ad AbuKhalil speaks on his experiences in Lebanon. As’ad AbuKhalil grew up in Beirut and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from American University of Beirut. He received his doctorate in comparative government from Georgetown University and is currently a professor of political science at California State University, Stanislaus and visiting professor at UC Berkeley
- Thursday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m., Graphic Arts Building, Room 106 – Showing of the documentary “About Baghdad.” A discussion will follow
