Cal Poly's College of Architecture and Environmental Design Open House Highlights

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Students of Cal Poly's College of Architecture and Environmental Design will host a variety of events during the university's Open House, “Explore Cal Poly: Begin Your Adventure,” Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.

The following events are free and open to the public:

Friday, April 20

The City and Regional Planning Department will host Digital Cities, a presentation about how technology relates to cities, urban life and everyday experiences. The event will be held in the Dexter Building, Room 249, 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Cal Poly's international award-winning Solar House will be on display and open for tours in the C-7 parking lot on California Boulevard off Highland Drive, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Alpha Rho Chi student club and CAED Ambassadors will host tours of the college. Tours begin in the upper stair court area of the Architecture Building, 1 to 4 p.m.

A variety of student displays will be set up in the Architecture Building’s Berg Gallery, 12 to 5 p.m.

Dave Erdman will speak as part of the Hearst Lecture Series, Business Building Rotunda, Room 213, 4 to 6 p.m.

 

Saturday, April 21

The Alpha Rho Chi student club and CAED Ambassadors will host tours of the college. Tours begin in the upper stair court area of the Architecture Building, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A variety of student displays will be set up in the Architecture Building’s Berg Gallery, 12 to 4 p.m.

The college will host an open house and alumni welcome, Architecture and Environmental Design Building, Room 212, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Architectural Engineering Alumni Luncheon by “reservation only,” Engineering West Courtyard, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Construction Management Department will present exhibits and heavy equipment displays, Engineering West, Room 120A and in front of the Kennedy Library, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The City and Regional Planning Department will host a noise workshop and demonstration, Dexter Building, Room 134, 11:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m.

The City and Regional Planning Department will host an alumni reception off campus at Mother’s Tavern, 725 Higuera Street, downtown San Luis Obispo, 3 to 5 p.m.

The Landscape Architecture Department will present student exhibits, Dexter Building and other locations, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cal Poly's international award-winning Solar House will be on display in the C-7 parking lot on California Boulevard off Highland Drive, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Design Village Competition 2007 entitled “LIVING MACHINE: building the space between” will display the work of more than 30 teams who have designed livable structures in Poly Canyon. The structures will serve as temporary shelter for team members throughout the weekend. Public viewing is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shuttle rides are available at the base of the canyon. The awards ceremony begins Sunday at 11 a.m.
