Cal Poly Homecoming Events Sold Out

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly Homecoming events set for this weekend are sold out, and a dedication ceremony for the expanded Alex G. Spanos Stadium has been rescheduled to Nov. 18.

The No. 4-ranked Cal Poly Mustangs will face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the Homecoming game this weekend. More than 8,000 fans are expected to attend the game. Tickets to the annual Mustang Corral Tailgate barbeque and 11th Annual Alumni Association Homecoming Wine Tasting before the game are sold out. For football game ticket information, contact the Cal Poly ticket office at 805-756-5806 or 866-GO-STANGS.

Plans for the dedication of the expanded Alex G. Spanos Stadium have been rescheduled to Nov. 18, the Mustangs’ last home game. Heavy rains last winter delayed construction on the new grandstands.

The Jackrabbits, Cal Poly’s Homecoming opponents, are also a charter member of the Great West Football Conference. The Jacks posted a 6-5 record in 2005, finishing tied for third place in the Great West.

The Mustangs have won the only two meetings between the two schools. South Dakota State return 43 letter winners, including 14 starters, and will be led by place kicker Parker Douglass, who scored 99 points and made 19 of 26 field goals last year, and running back Cory Koenig, who rushed for 987 yards and eight touchdowns in 2005. But Cal Poly was a perfect 6-0 at home last fall and is one of the West's top five teams this season - and the game is sure to be a good one.
