Cal Poly Opens Mustang Memorial Plaza to Public Oct. 29 Event Commemorates 46th Anniversary of Plane Crash

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly will open the recently dedicated Mustang Memorial Plaza to the public on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The two-hour public viewing commemorates the 46th anniversary of the 1960 plane crash that took the lives of 16 Cal Poly football players, the team manager and a team booster. Individuals associated with the 1960 Football Team will be on hand to meet the public and answer questions.

Mustang Memorial Plaza is located in the South West corner of the Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Parking is available in the C-2 lot on campus and is free. Enter campus on California Boulevard and follow directional signs to the Plaza, which is located behind Jespersen Hall.

Mustang Memorial Plaza was dedicated in a private ceremony on Friday, Sept. 29, as part of the university’s Hall of Fame weekend. Souvenir programs from the Sept. 29 dedication event will be available. The plaza will be open to the public daily following the Nov. 18 dedication of the stadium.
