Cal Poly Choirs to Ring in the Holidays With ‘A Christmas Celebration’ Dec. 9
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Choirs will perform music to celebrate the upcoming holiday season at the annual “A Christmas Celebration” Saturday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in Harman Hall of the Performing Arts Center's Cohan Center.
In what has become an annual tradition, members of the audience will be invited to join in a carol sing-a-long. In addition, PolyPhonics will perform the world premiere of the traditional Basque carol “Sing Lullaby,” arranged by Cal Poly faculty member Meredith Brammeier. “This arrangement was written especially for Cal Poly Music Professor Thomas Davies and PolyPhonics,” said Brammeier. Student harpist Sabrina Glenn will accompany the ensemble.
Conducted by Davies, the choirs include PolyPhonics, the University Singers, and the Early Music Ensemble. Joining the ensembles will be members of the Cal Poly Brass Ensemble directed by Keith Snell, the entertaining barbershop quartets “O Snap” and “Wired-4-Sound,” as well as a capella group “Take It SLO.” Paul Woodring and Susan Azaret Davies will accompany the choirs.
Tickets to “A Christmas Celebration” are $17 and $20 for the public, $16 and $19 for senior citizens, and $10 for students. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO- ARTS (756-2787).
Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket office will receive a 10 percent discount; a 15 percent discount is given to those who buy tickets to five or more events.
The holiday concert is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information, call the Music Department at 756-2406.
