Cal Poly City and Regional Planning Students Draft Saticoy-Wells Community Plan Proposal
SAN LUIS OBISPO–Cal Poly city and regional planning students have proposed a community plan for the Saticoy-Wells area in eastern Ventura.
The students researched existing land uses, environmental resources and the area’s economy to assess opportunities and constraints for the study area.
After a series of public meetings and workshops to take input from the community, the students presented their suggestions for future development to the Saticoy-Wells City Council in February.
Council members were particularly pleased that the students’ efforts brought together all stakeholders – the community, the city and developers interested in developing properties within the study area, said the project’s faculty supervisor, Zeljka Howard.
Around 350 people attended the students’ workshops, and the community’s participation has been invaluable, Howard said. With that input, the proposal was tailored to fit the various needs of the community.
The project also allowed students to work with industry professionals Crawford, Multari and Clark Associates of San Luis Obispo to learn how the community planning process works, Howard said.
The consultants will use the class information to finalize the draft community plan and submit it to the city council for adoption by the end on the year.
