Cal Poly Architectural Engineering Instructor Gives Award-Winning Presentation
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly instructor Edmond Saliklis won the award for "Best Presentation" in the Architectural Engineering Division at the American Society for Engineering Education's 113th Annual Conference and Exposition June 18-21 in Chicago , Ill.
Saliklis' paper, "Putting a Fence Around Architectural Engineering Undergraduate Research Projects," described the current literature devoted to the engineering undergraduate research experience. He provided guidelines for designing student research projects and for encouraging undergraduate participation. The presentation included several case studies of student projects Saliklis has mentored.
The ASEE is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting education in engineering and engineering technology by enhancing professional opportunities for engineering faculty and increasing student enrollment in engineering colleges and universities. Cal Poly's architectural engineering program in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design is unique because of its commitment to intensive structural engineering training of undergraduate students who want to study building design.
