Alum, Helicopter Pilot Killed in Action in Iraq
Helicopter pilot Rex "Chris"
Kenyon was killed in action in Iraq Jan. 16. Kenyon, a 34-year-old
Army helicopter pilot, died doing what he loved, according to his
family. As a freshman at Cal Poly, he was recruited during the Gulf
War and went on to a military career.

Engineering Alum Working to Rebuild Afghanistan
Navy
Lt. Michael McCain (EnvEng, '00) is in a unit working to rebuild
clinics, roads, water systems and schools in Afghanistan, north
of the capital of Kabul. As an engineer, he's overseeing a team
of local Afghan contractors doing reconstruction work.

Alum John Madden Named to Pro Football Hall of Fame
Retired pro football coach and current 'Monday Night Football' and
television sports commentator John Madden was named to the Pro Football
Hall of Fame Feb. 4. Madden coached the Oakland Raiders for 10 straight
seasons beginning in 1969, turning the team into perennial winners
and, in 1976, Superbowl Champions. Madden earned both his bachelor's
(PE '59) and master's degrees (M.A. -- ED & PE '61 ) at Cal
Poly, and played for the Mustangs -- football and baseball -- in
1957 and 1958. Madden was hired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders
at age 32. Over the next 10 seasons he compiled a .759 regular season
winning percentage, the highest in NFL history of any coach with
100 career wins.

Accounting Grad Named Senior VP at Computer Associates
Computer Associates International, Inc. named Marc
Loupe (BusAdm '76) senior vice president and head of internal audit. Loupe
will be responsible for overseeing all the company’s internal
audit and risk management functions, including assessing the adequacy
of the internal controls associated with the Company’s financial,
operational and information technology activities. He is a 17-year
veteran of Sun Microsystems, where he most recently was Vice President
of Finance for the company’s product groups and led that financial
organization’s efforts to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Poly Sci Alum Appointed to Auburn Planning Commission
Nicholas Kosla, 29, (PolSci '99) was appointed to
the Auburn Planning Commission in January. The land-use advocate
recently moved to Auburn. He is currently a graduate student at
California State University, Sacramento, studying public policy
and administration, and his life after Cal Poly has included a tour
of duty in the Army serving in the DMZ in South Korea, and time
in Washington D.C. as a legislative assistant.

Robert Meyer (Physics, '96) has been named group vice president
for sales and marketing at Meggitt Aerospace Equipment, based in
Simi Valley.

Grad Named to Head new Oceanside City Department
rank Watanabe (Civil Eng '85), formerly transportation manager
for the city of Oceanside, has been chosen to head up a new city
department combining planning, building, civil engineering and transportation.
Watanabe was appointed the director of Oceanside's new Community
Development and Transportation Department.
