Homecoming Events Offer Photo Opportunities Nov. 3-5

TO: All local photo editors, assignment editors, news editors, education reporters, sports reporters

WHAT: Cal Poly's annual Homecoming celebration starts Thursday -- and presents several good opportunities for photos, video and "wild art." In addition to the Homecoming football game, events presenting good photo ops are:

THURSDAY, Nov. 3
Homecoming Banner Hanging, 8-9 a.m., UU Plaza.

Student teams participate in events to earn points. Team with the most points has its candidates crowned Homecoming King and Queen at halftime during the football game Nov. 5. Event kickoff is 8 to 9 a.m. Nov. 3 in UU Plaza. Homecoming teams will be hanging their just-made team banners in the UU -- usually very colorful.

Spirit Rally, 11 a.m. - noon, UU Plaza. Banner contest winners announced, Homecoming Court candidates introduced, plus the Mustang Marching Band, football team, stunt and dance teams and Mustang Maniacs all celebrating Cal Poly spirit.

FRIDAY, Nov. 4
Laugh Olympics, noon-1 p.m., Mott Gym Lawn.
Student teams compete in messy contests, usually including the ketchup slide and venerable mackerel fight (involves seafood).

SATURDAY, Nov. 5
Homecoming Parade, 10-11 a.m., Higuera Street.
A Cal Poly tradition since 1906, still drawing plenty of community members and families to watch. Student teams and their Homecoming floats parade down Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. The parade will feature the 2005 Cal Poly Honored Alumni, Homecoming Court, student floats, tractors, and much more. The ASI Children's Center will be making their second appearance on a bicycle brigade. The parade will feature the Cal Poly Mustang Marching Band, as well as the Alumni Mustang Marching Band. Community groups will also be in the parade, including Mission Prep Dance Team and Performance Athletics Gymnastics and Cheer.
