Cal Poly City Planning Exhibition
To Display Ideas for San Luis Obispo of 2050
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly civil engineering students will
present their ideas for the future of San Luis Obispo at the City
Planning Exhibition on Friday, Nov. 18.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will
be at the San Luis Obispo City-County Library from 9:45 –
11:30 a.m.
The students in Professor Eugene Jud’s public transportation
class were asked to create a proposal for a transit-oriented and
sustainable model city, “SLO South 2050.” Groups had
to balance current community concerns with future progress. The
exhibition gives city officials and community members the opportunity
to see how up-and-coming engineers and city planners imagine the
future of San Luis Obispo.
“Good ideas can come from anywhere,” Jud
said. “These students are the engineers of tomorrow, and they
could have an actual impact on how San Luis Obispo will look in
the future.”
At the exhibition, each group will give a short presentation,
and guests will be invited to review and discuss the displays with
the students. Each project represents a general idea for the city
in 2050, addressing sustainable land use, mobility and main activity
centers. They include the Dalidio property, Prado Road and a possible
freeway interchange, the Margarita and airport area, and the Damon-Garcia
Sports Complex.
For details, contact Jud, at (805) 756-1729 or Erica Thompson, class
president, at (559) 269-6703.
