Cal Poly Trombone Choir To Play Christmas Concert Dec. 2 at Farmers' Market

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Trombone Choir will bring some early Christmas cheer to downtown San Luis Obispo with a free Christmas Concert performed during Farmers' Market on Dec. 2.

The ensemble, directed by Music Department faculty member Roy Main, will perform more than 20 Christmas songs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Higuera and Chorro streets.

The choir will perform such classics as "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night," "Santa Claus is Coming To Town," "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "Deck The Halls," "Greensleeves" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."

The ensemble will also play "The Christmas Song," "Christmas Medley," "Silver Bells," "White Christmas/Winter Wonderland Medley," "Angels We Have Heard On High," "Let It Snow," "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear," "O Little Town Of Bethlehem," and "We Wish You A Merry Merry Christmas"

The choir is made up of Cal Poly students from a variety of majors. Tenor trombones will be played by music majors Ryan Putt, Amanda Yoshimizu, Adam Brover, Colin Dean, Brian Rubin; aerospace engineering major Wenschel Lan, civil and environmental engineering graduate Dan Cronquist, electrical engineering major Andrew Carmean, architectural engineering major Mike Kenny, computer engineering major Ethan Larson,
history major Laura Sorvetti, and kinesiology major Amanda Witko.

Bass trombones will be played by music majors Mark Miller and Jason Kneebone.

Trombone Choir director Main has also directed the Cal Poly Brass Choir and teaches trombone, euphonium and tuba at Cal Poly. He has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Inglewood Symphony and Brentwood Symphony.

Professionally he has played for movie studios, television and record companies, jazz-dance bands, and chamber and musical theater groups in the Los Angeles area.
