Cal Poly Choral Ensembles To Perform 'A Christmas Celebration' Dec. 4
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's choral groups will ring in the holidays
with their
annual "A Christmas Celebration" concert at 8 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 4, in Harman Hall in the Christopher Cohan Center.
The Cal Poly choirs and barbershop quartets, including Here Comes Treble and Men-So Forte, will perform. The choirs are made up of three ensembles: PolyPhonics, a 48-member mixed choir; The University Singers, Cal Poly's largest mixed choir; and Cal Poly Vocal Jazz, a group of 12.
Cal Poly's Brass Ensemble, directed by Keith Snell, will also perform.
The choirs are conducted by Thomas Davies and will be accompanied by Patrick Christians and Paul Woodring, all members of the Cal Poly Music Department.
This year's program will feature music by masters Giovanni Gabrielli and Johannes Brahms, as well as contemporary works by Craig Kingsbury and Mannheim Steamroller. A new carol arrangement by music faculty member Meredith Brammeier will be given its premiere.
In what has become an annual tradition, the audience will be invited to join in a carol sing-a-long.
After intermission the barbershop quartets and Take It SLO, an a cappella vocal group, will present "Christmas Cameos" and the audience will be invited to join in a carol sing-a-long. The concert will conclude with Malcolm Sargent's "Silent Night."
Tickets to "A Christmas Celebration" are $14 to $18 for
the public, $12 to $16 for senior citizens, and $7 to $10 for students.
Tickets can be bought at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
