SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly will host an evening discussion
with
best-selling author Roland Bunch Nov. 5 on "International Agriculture:
Effective Rural Development with Cutting-Edge Technologies."
The lecture will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Business Rotunda (Room
213 of
the Orfalea College of Business building) off California Boulevard.
The
event is free and open to the public; parking is available nearby

Bunch is an international agriculturist and best-selling author.
He
serves as coordinator of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods
for World Neighbors, and is currently on the United Nations World
Hunger
Task Force.
He earned his masters degree in international agricultural development
at Cal Poly in 1974. Since that time he has been a pioneer and major
proponent of many practices and technologies now widely used in
agricultural development, such as farmer-to-farmer extension,
participatory technology development, green manure/cover crops and
small-scale water management, said Hunter Francis, director of Cal
Poly’s Sustainable Agricultural Resources Consortium.
From 1976 to 1990, Bunch served as area representative for World
Neighbors programs in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
His
book, “Two Ears of Corn: A Guide to People-Centered Agricultural
Improvement,” has sold over 65,000 copies since it was published
in
1982.
