Composer, Musician, Lyricist to Perform
One-Man Show Dec. 1
As Part of World AIDS Day
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Composer, musician and lyricist Steve Schacilin will give a free one-man performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Philips Hall in the Performing Arts Center to commemorate World AIDS Day.
Schacilin will perform "Living in the Bonus Round," an entertaining and educational show about living with AIDS. Schacilin survived a potentially deadly bout with AIDS in 1996. "I call this the 'bonus round,' because I should not even be alive," Schacilin says, on his Web blog.
Schacilin, who won the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Award for best L.A. Production, describes his transformation from a "sick, dead songwriter, hooked up to an IV for 14-hours a day" to an award-winning performer. He also talks about health issues that are a result of AIDS.
"Schacilin shares his story with humor and song," said Maya Andlig, coordinator of gender and sexuality programs at Cal Poly.
For more information about the performance, call Andlig at 756-5839.
