Cal Poly Selects Seven for ‘Best’ Students Honors May 18
Seven
Cal Poly students will be recognized Saturday (May 18) for achieving the highest
level of excellence in balancing their academic pursuits with community service.
The students will receive the Land Family Quest for the Best Award at a
reception at the Smith Alumni and Conference Center on campus.
Ali Schlageter of Daly City won the College of Liberal Arts award and the University Honors award. Additional student honorees are Christopher Madsen, a resident of Ripon and a student in the College of Agriculture; Joshua Price, Los Osos, College of Architecture and Environmental Design; Daniel Iverson, Lompoc, College of Engineering; Amanda Chavez, Walnut Creek, Orfalea College of Business; Hilary Schwandt, Bellingham, Wash., College of Science and Mathematics; and ASI President Angie Hacker, Glendora, Associated Students.
The
awards are the result of the blending of the Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Land
Outstanding University and Community Service Award, established by alumnus
Jeffrey Land, a 1980 business administration graduate, and his wife, Carla Land,
in 1986, and the Quest for the Best Award, initiated two years ago by the office
of Cal Poly’s Vice President for Student Affairs.
In
funding the award, the Land family sought to recognize student leaders in each
of the university’s six colleges and the Associated Students Inc. who
exemplify excellence, stewardship, collaboration, integrity and community. One
student is selected to receive the highest honor – the universitywide award.
