Cal Poly Liberal Studies Program Awarded Grant To Create
Theatrical Production on Energy
The California Arts Council and the state Consumer Services Agency recently
awarded Cal Poly's Liberal Studies Program a $6,000 grant to work with the
Atascadero Fine Arts Academy in writing and producing a 30-minute theatrical
production.
The production, titled "Power Down!," will address energy production,
conservation and efficiency.
The project is a collaboration of local professional musicians and
dancers and students from the Atascadero Unified School District. It is
anticipated that the script will be available to other school districts
throughout the state in 2003.
The "Power Down!" project, led by Alan Pietsch, a teacher at the
Atascadero Fine Arts Academy, will tour local elementary schools this
spring.
Cal Poly's involvement stems from its California Arts Council
Demonstration Project, led by Liberal Studies faculty members Susan
Duffy and Kathleen Friend. The three-year demonstration project is
increasing arts education in third-grade classrooms in the Lucia Mar
School District through instruction by arts specialists and
performances.
The Liberal Studies Program will oversee the "Power Down!" project.

more information, call Duffy or Friend at 756-2935.
