Cal Poly To Host Sixth Annual Pest Management Conference in June
The intersection of agriculture and urban areas, the California Clean Water
Act, plant management, insect miners, whitefly management and turf diseases are
just some of the topics to be covered
at an environmental horticulture pest management conference coming to Cal Poly
in June 2002.
The Sixth Annual Environmental Horticulture Integrated Pest Management
Conference is scheduled for June 17-18. The event is sponsored by the
Cal Poly Horticulture and Crop Science Department and the Cal Poly
Environmental Horticultural Science Club.
This year's conference continues a tradition of providing current and
useful information for ornamental horticulturalists, said Conference
Chair Robert Rice, a professor in the Horticulture and Crop Science
Department.
"We offer a program that touches all areas of ornamental horticulture,
from floriculture to nursery to landscape and turf," Rice said.
This year's conference will also feature a menu of field trips to area
nurseries and golf courses, a day-long trade show, and a series of
presentations from professors, researchers and government officials, as
well as a Santa Maria-style barbecue.
The cost to industry members and the general public is $150 before
April 15, and $175 after April 15. The cost to students (with student
I.D.) is $35. Participants can earn continuing education credits
certified by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation,
International Society of Arboriculture, and California Certified Crop
Advisors.
