IGT Testing Systems Supports New West Coast Testing Laboratory at Cal Poly

IGT Testing Systems became a "partner in education"
with Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department by helping to develop
a new Substrates, Ink and Toner Laboratory at the university.

In a grand opening ceremony during Cal Poly's International Printing
Week 2002 in January, the university dedicated the installation of an
IGT printability tester for offset lithographic inks and an IGT
printability tester for flexographic and gravure inks. The devices,
valued at almost $30,000, support a host of other equipment used in the
lab for research, testing and product evaluation.

Harvey Levenson, head of Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department
said, "These IGT devices will be used as part of an unprecedented
laboratory experience in the western United States that educates
students on testing procedures and standards used in printing and
packaging.

Additionally, the laboratory will be used for providing research,
testing and product evaluation services for printers and for printing
supply industries, such as paper, inks, toners and related materials.

The services to industry will be coordinated through the Graphic
Communication Institute at Cal Poly.

As part of the dedication, Tom Klepper, IGT regional manager, conducted
a seminar on material testing for Cal Poly students and faculty and
staff members.

Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department was founded in 1946 and
maintains an enrollment of 300 students. The department has more than
2,500 alumni. With more than 33,000 square feet of modern laboratories,
the department is one of the largest of its kind in the nation.
Graduates and interns are recruited by some of the largest companies in
the printing, publishing electronic imaging, packaging, and equipment
and supply sectors of the industry. The department has an
internationally known faculty of professors, scholars, researchers and
consultants.
