Cal Poly Extended Studies Receives $37,000 Grant
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The California State University Commission on the
Extended University has awarded Cal Poly's Extended Studies program a
$37,000 grant to help identify existing educational voids in northern
San Luis Obispo and southern Monterey counties.
The money, to be awarded in the 2002-2003 academic year, will help
Extended Studies carry out a comprehensive study of the educational and
workforce training needs of the two counties. Extended Studies will be
working with area businesses, community organizations, local school
districts and government agencies to assess current and future
workforce development needs.
Once completed, the study will be the basis for planning and developing
future programs.
"We are very pleased that the CSU commission has awarded this
important planning grant to Cal Poly Extended Studies," said Dennis
Parks, dean of extended studies at Cal Poly. "The grant will
significantly assist Extended Studies in its mission to expand
educational opportunities to these two areas."
The study will include the communities of Atascadero, Greenfield, King
City, Paso Robles and Templeton.
